Coffee Stain continues to impress out of Early Access.
Satisfactory is one of the best resource gathering, factory constructing, upgrade Sims in all existence. Even more so now that it’s out of early access! This review is up in video form on YouTube, linked above.
I’ve been playing this game on and off since Update 0.4, and it just keeps getting better and better. It has become one of my favorite games of all time. The difference between now and then, is that as of right now, it’s more accessible than ever before, absolutely filled to the brim with quality of life changes, that all together make this a game that I feel I really can recommend to just about anyone. So what even is it about?
In my own words, Satisfactory is a first person resource management game focused on automation and item creation, through connecting machines and buildings which all become a part of “your factory”. The goal, is to meet objectives by launching various resources into space, with each subsequent objective (and its sub-objectives) requiring more complex resources than the last. This process is split into 5 “phases”, and 9 “tiers”.
Along the way, you’ll unlock bigger buildings that accept more inputs and produce more outputs. You’ll research and unlock better equipment, that allows you to traverse (or survive) better. You’ll also get more convenient means of transporting items through vehicles, or faster conveyor belts, all so that you can meet your end goal of completing the final 5th phase, which allows you to see the end credits.
Besides expanding your empire, you can explore the open world to find resources that give you huge advantages. So in your downtime, it’s nice to wander while you let your mind cool off of all the factory conundrums you’ll be thinking about. But be warned! There are creatures on this world that are territorial. Don’t pick a fight you can’t win…
This is a game you can play by yourself or with friends via direct connection or in a privately hosted server. From start to finish, it probably takes about 200 hours to roll credits if you actively play it, by yourself. Letting your game idle, or playing with friends (should you have any) may “reduce” that number. I have always played by myself, and I have played for about 130 active hours, and I’m maybe half-way through completing Phase 5 in my most recent save.
SteamDeck is a fantastic was to play the game. Because of the versatility of Valve’s Steam Input, we can map EVERYTHING to the decks controls and play without skipping a beat. What really makes it work is MODE SWITCHING, which lets you hide controls underneath of controls, which activate, when you push or hold a button. It’s a glorious thing. Google it. Or steal my preset (which makes more sense than the current top preset, IMO).
Overall, I can’t help but recommend Satisfactory. It’s climbed its way into being one of my most favorite games of all time, with each update molding it into a better and better game. Even at its full $40.00 price tag, I recommend it, and can give it the Dollar ’n’ Hour Guarantee. When you do take the plunge, into this gloriously fantastic game you’ll find that building out your factory is nothing less…. Than Satisfactory.
