Don’t let the art style fool you: this is one of the deepest and most complex “deck-builder roguelites” that I have ever played. It is super addicting, free, and recommended. NameBrand.
I told myself I would review this game if I beat it, or if I feel I’ve played it enough… I’ve thrown down 10 hours. Man. I’m not getting that time back and honestly, I’m not even mad.
This game is crazy addicting. I started playing out of curiosity because one of my friends has 80 hours in it… and I sat there and wondered… how. Now I know. You’re always itching for that perfect team. For that perfect build. For that perfect run.
To even fathom beating everyone in the arena you have to know the pets, the items, their mechanics, and their synergies. You must start to piece together pet combos, and scaling pet values… you have to realize that underneath, it’s all just a numbers game and random chance. Then you have a shot at winning. You will be constantly adapting your team build. Got a pet you want? The shop may not give it to you. Maybe the shop does rotate and you DO get what you want. Then the game places you against an unbeatable opponent. Your strategy in this game has to be so big brain that it could power civilizations. You have to be thinking ahead in terms of quantum leaps. It always seems as though victory is within reach… but at the same time, you never come close…
For a free game about pets fighting it has exceeded my expectations of what it could be. I do wish, however, that there was a “Sandbox” where you could test different team setups. Learn what the different pets do, etc. The learning curve is massive, and an in-game resource like that would be incredible. Getting to turn 10 just to get a new pet in the shop I’ve never seen before puts me at an unfair disadvantage, I think.
I also believe a mode with a fixed shop (whether a new PvP mode or even a single-player adventure mode, or whatever) would go a long way. Something structured like that could help new players learn everything at their disposal and prepare them for what’s to come.
If you have some free time in between games. Or work. Lunch. The bathroom even (the cross save on Android is amazing)… a great game. Recommend. But be warned, it is frustratingly addicting.
