Wow! I am blown away at how incredible this collection of remastered games is. The remaster gives the old games the justice they deserve as some of the best-designed collect-a-thons you could ever hope to play. They’re such a good time that you can’t help but complete them, and you’re rewarded for doing so!
I could not have fathomed years ago that this original trilogy would ever see the light of day again. I’ve tried the successor games and reboots but I’ve always felt that they were lacking something. They just don’t have the same charm as the original three. These original games are curiously addicting at every level and around every turn, and for whatever reason that’s something the new Spyro games have never captured to me. Heck, that other games in this genre can’t capture. But my oh my, they remastered it, and that same magic is back, and it’s better than ever.
It might be a bit easy compared to today’s standards, albeit for a few oddly difficult portions in each of the games, but I never found myself bored or frustrated. The playground feel of each realm and hub world is immaculate. The updated models of the characters and enemies alike are spot on. The music in particular leaves me dumbfounded and awash with nostalgia. The games remain fun, in the midst of all this of course. It makes it perfect to recommend to anybody and everybody. Casual or hardcore alike. This is a collection of games that I believe everybody should play and experience at some point in their lifetime, they’re just that spectacularly fun.
Maybe some of this is nostalgia talking, or the small part of my childhood that died thinking I’d never get to play Ripto’s Rage again because the disc was scratched… but still, these are classic. Borderline perfect. And nobody can make me think otherwise. Highly recommended by me.
