Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon oozes style and aesthetics so much, and in terms of gameplay, it still holds up surprisingly well all these years later. Blood Dragon also has some excellent satire that kept me chuckling through the majority of its story beats. It’s short, comfortably completable in 6 roughly hours. But man, those 6 hours are an excellent ride into a pretty interesting universe, filled with over-the-top action and wild ’80s references.
I’m a bit sad this spin-off idea wasn’t expanded on more into a full-length game. Maybe that could be argued to just be Far Cry… But this is the only Far Cry game I’ve ever played. For what it is, I’m glad to have played it, and think many people will enjoy playing it as well. Recommended. Watch my YouTube video if you need a little more convincing.
Something really important has to be said: There’s a patch of some .dll files online in a Reddit post that will make it so that the game won’t try to connect to the online servers (why it even has servers it has to login to in the first place, for a single player game, is beyond my understanding), and without that, you’ll waste a lot of time waiting as you go and in and out of menus. So if you’re on PC, Google “Far Cry 3 server offline fix” and you’ll eventually stumble your way to what I found. Other than that, the game still plays great, and I have fun with it every time I decide it’s been too long since I’ve played.
